It has been a roller-coaster ride for the participating 32 international teams over a 1 month period of exhilarating and unpredictable football. For those who followed, this proved to be one of the more erratic football competition than what we previously experienced. Greater teams faltered and lesser outfits prevailed. No doubt it was a tad disappointing to see most of those ‘giant’ teams went out one after another during the early stages but witnessing a new dawn for the Davids is equally exciting!
The likes of Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Salah and Neymar is sorely missed for the finals but seeing the new list of superstar footballers strut their stuff such as Mbappe, Greizmann, Lovren Mandžukić and co certainly a breathe of fresh air this year. Croatia reaching the finals is no small feat and nearly created the nation’s football record had they won it. And with a 6 goals finals, who could’ve asked for more?
And with England’s belief of the World Cup ‘coming home’ but instead going home, this is one highly anticipated Word Cup for the English eh… Egypt with their very own ‘Messi’ in Salah, the scrappy Argentinians, the Toni Kroos freekick, Iran’s comical failed throw, Japan with Belgium’s epic duel, and of course, Neymar’s theatrics along the way, this will be remembered as one of the most eventful World Cup ever.
Personally, I’ve only followed a handful of games but realized that more and more people around me are beginning to catch the this football fever every 4 years. It has been a good run and another few weeks till the BPL is back. Can’t wait for the new season to start!
